I do not have contractual relationships with any health insurance companies, so I am not on any insurance provider panels. However, I am happy to provide a “Superbill” upon request. If your plan offers "out-of-network" benefits, you can submit this Superbill to your insurance company and may receive a partial reimbursement for the cost of your therapy.

Dr. Ryan’s Approach
-
Nearly all training programs prepare clinicians to treat individuals for depression and anxiety - that is rarely a specialty. Couples and marriage therapy, however, is a genuine specialty that requires dedicated training and years of supervised experience. If you are seeking couples therapy, ask directly whether the therapist specializes in it, and ask about their clinical training if it is not listed on their site.
-
Yes. I have over 30 years of experience treating couples and have trained with family therapy pioneers including Salvador Minuchin, Sue Johnson, Terry Real, and Stan Tatkin. I currently train prospective and seasoned mental health professionals in couples therapy at Brooklyn College (CUNY) and elsewhere.
-
I tailor every session to the specific complaints, unmet needs, and individual goals of each person in the room. My extensive training allows me to read couples rapidly and begin intervening almost immediately. I am known for my exquisite sensitivity, non-judgmental stance, and attentiveness to each partner's shifting emotional states. My work helps couples drop their defenses and re-access the reassurance, nurturing, and closeness they desire - most couples begin to experience meaningful progress in the very first session.
-
Short, standard-length sessions rarely give either partner enough time to fully express their concerns - and repeated brief sessions often leave couples feeling demoralized. Longer sessions allow me to develop and execute a strategy involving multiple clinical tactics, creating real connection and movement within a single meeting rather than across many months.
-
Yes. For pre-marital counseling in particular, I offer a series of structured exercises designed to assess and deepen emotional closeness and connection. This can include, if desired, work around each partner's sexual needs, desires, and preferences, as well as building greater openness and disinhibition as a couple.
-
Discernment Counseling is a specialized short-term process - typically 1 to 5 sessions - designed for couples where one partner is "leaning out" of the relationship and the other is "leaning in." The goal is not to fix the marriage, but to gain genuine clarity about whether to move toward reconciliation, separation, or to continue as-is. I have been a certified Discernment Counselor since 2014.
-
Concierge care means I maintain a deliberately limited caseload, ensuring that every client receives my full clinical focus. This translates to greater scheduling flexibility, more personalized treatment, and a level of attentiveness that goes well beyond standard weekly appointments.
Getting Started
-
Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive an invitation to my secure SimplePractice client portal. There, you'll find several intake forms where you are invited to share as much, or as little, about yourself, your relationship, and your concerns as feels comfortable.
I personally review these materials before we meet. This allows me to begin understanding your unique circumstances in advance, so our first hour together can be spent less on paperwork and more on meaningful conversation, insight, and the beginning of the therapeutic process.
-
Your first meeting with me is more than an intake. It is the beginning of the therapeutic process. Rather than separating "assessment" from "therapy," I weave them together from the start.
As we explore your relationship, your concerns, and what has brought you here, there are often opportunities to begin making meaningful changes right away. Sometimes a thoughtful question leads to an important new understanding. At other times, a brief interaction between you and your partner offers valuable insight while also creating an opening for healing and growth.
This active approach helps you leave even the very first session with greater clarity, hope, and practical direction. Many couples tell me they begin to experience important shifts right away.
